Mail Center


New students and transfer students

Mailbox assignments, mailbox combinations, and the mail center policies and procedures will be emailed by the first day of classes. There is no need to come to the mail center to acquire your mailbox assignment and combination. Mail can still be sent to Savannah State University if you don’t yet have a mailbox assignment.

The mail that is being sent to you will need to include your FULL FIRST NAME and FULL LAST NAME on it - no nicknames or abbreviated names. If the name on the mail/package does not match the name in our system, then it will be sent back to the original sender. Returning Students 

If you have forgotten your mailbox number and/or combination, please send an email to with a picture of your SSU student ID and a picture of your government-issued ID. 

The Mail Center (phone number 912-358-3126document center) is located on the first floor of the King-Frazier Student Center, across from the University Bookstore. Stamps are available for purchase, and letters or packages can be mailed. Residential students are each charged a nominal fee for a mailbox. The service window is open from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, except for university holidays. The mail center accepts cash, credit/debit cards, and the SSU ID card flex fund. 

Policies and Procedures

All resident students will be assigned a mailbox. Mailbox numbers and combinations will be sent to the student's SSU student email address. Make sure to always check the junk folder for any University sent emails.

Please note that Mail Center employees are not allowed to retrieve mail out of a mailbox as well as disclose whether or not a package or particular piece of mail has arrived for a student.

If you are returning the subsequent semester and are living in a residence hall, you will not be required to clear your box with the SSU Mail Center staff. You will keep the same mailbox, as long as you have applied for housing by July 1. Otherwise, your mailbox may be reassigned to an incoming student.

Due to the shortage of mailboxes, the university is unable to provide students or staff who reside off-campus with a mailbox or with package acceptance services. There are no personal mailboxes available for faculty and staff.

Mail Services

Through the mailbox service, SSU students may send mail without postage to other SSU resident students, staff, or faculty (name and box number required).

Incoming Mail

Morning mail is scheduled for delivery in mailboxes by approximately 2:00 p.m., depending on the amount of mail received at the university. Package notifications are sent to you via your Savannah State email account (Tigermail) as soon as the packages are processed in our system. If you have not received an email, the package may be in one of our reception areas other than the Mail Center. You must present your ID Card in order to pick up a package. Because of extra safety and security measures taken in regards to COVID-19, please DO NOT come to the mail center to ask for a package unless you have received an email from the SSU Mail Center.

Outgoing Mail

Mail leaves from the Mail Center at approximately 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. You may bring outgoing mail to the Mail Center desk or drop a stamped envelope in the outgoing mailbox on the side wall in the King-Frazier Mail Center. There is also a mail drop box in Adams Hall. Please be aware that any outgoing mail will go through Jacksonville for processing. Please take this into consideration when sending out mail.

Forwarding Your Mail

If you are leaving campus housing, please be sure to notify the SSU Mail Center of your forwarding address; in addition, notify all of the senders of your new address right away.  Do not put in a request with the U.S. Postal Service using your Savannah State address.  Your First Class mail (ONLY) will be forwarded for 30 days.  First Class mail (ONLY) will be returned to the sender if it remains in the Mail Center after 30 days.  Packages will be held for 30 days; after that time, they will be returned to the sender.  Third Class mail (magazines, flyers, bulk mail items, etc.) cannot be forwarded or returned; you will need to contact the sender directly to have your address changed.

If you are living on-campus during the Spring semester, you may keep your same mailbox in the fall, as long as you have been assigned housing as of July 1. Otherwise, your mailbox will be reassigned, and your First Class mail will be returned to the sender.
