Career Opportunities

The Department of Journalism and  Mass Communications prepares students for careers in all areas of professional journalism, multimedia & digital communication, and public relations & strategic communication with applications to multimedia platforms and social media.

Journalism:
Students in the journalism concentration typically work for newspapers, magazines and online news/broadcast services. They are also prepared for careers in information gathering/analysis, writing, software applications, online publications and editing which requires them to implement social media and multimedia platforms in a converged professional media environment.

Multimedia & Digital Communications:
The multimedia & digital communication concentration prepares students, through its high definition/digital television production studio and state-of-the-art campus FM radio station, to meet the challenges of working in a professional broadcast environment with online, social media and multimedia platforms. The department's utilization of new media technologies/software prepares students to work in video/audio production/post production and as on-air media talent, producers, writers, cable television personnel, media sales associates, corporate communicators and producers.

Public Relations & Strategic Communication:
The public relations and advertising concentration prepares students to work in a converged professional media environment in the following areas: corporate public relations, public opinion research, special events planning, web design, utilizing social media platforms, software applications to media, community relations, sales, reporting, politics (lobbying), graphic design, public affairs, alumni relations, advertising, media research, and integrated marketing.
